Primus OmniFuel Stove with Windscreen Reviews
8 of 8 people found the following review helpful Best multi-fuel stove ever., By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Primus OmniFuel Stove (Sports) I wanted a stove for hunting trips that could burn everything because you never know what will be available when you travel world wide. So far I have run this stove on White Gas, Isobutene, Diesel (I just tried it out to see) and Lamp Paraffin. I used to have a Whisperlite International and this is much better. I have also tried one stove that clamed to take any fuel and lacked jets but it did not run anywhere near as well as this one and was finicky.Pros: -Runs on anything basically -Sturdy pump is mostly metal. -Relatively light weight. -Once you are used to it, fine control is easy. Can always pump less as well. -Field serviceable. Practice before you leave. -Holes in feet let you stake it down if you must (I pack 3 double head 16 penny nails for this). Cons: -The wind screen could be better, but it works. -Jets and small parts to loose, but I have not seen a stove that runs this well and dose not have jets and small... Nettle (The Last Frontier) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Primus OmniFuel Stove (Sports) The Primus OmniFuel sets the standard for stoves. Is it more expensive? Yes, but as with most things, you get what you pay for. As with the other multi fuel stoves, it heats well, can simmer, and meets its basic functionality. But a few features set it apart.Fuel Flexibility The OmniFuel can burn just about any oil based fuel. Gasoline, Diesel, Kerosene, White Gas, Isobutane Canisters, etc. It comes with different jets to allow you to burn these at the rates each is designed to burn at. You will get differences in boil times with these, but the flexibility makes it worth it. The downside to this flexibility is a few more parts to carry around in your kits, but they are small, and worth their weight. Durability. As opposed to other multi-fuel stoves, the OmniFuel is made much more durable. The pump is metal construction vs. plastic of most other pumps, and there are very few non-metal parts (mostly o-rings) to fail. It is designed for use in the... Be it unleaded gas, white gas, kerosene, jet-fuel [both Jet-A (kerosene based) & Jet-B (naptha based(similar to white gas))], diesel, and propane/butane. Wow! I can burn almost any fuel available. If I run across the canisters of propane/butane so much the better. I can use what is available. Surely in my travels I will be able to find at least one of these fuels. Yes, diesel burns with enough soot to require regular cleaning of the jets, and to some degree so does kerosene, especially considering the quality in third world countries. This stove is light considering its range of fuels, rugged enough to be around for a long time, easily repaired with stove and pump kits available, and sufficiently compact for all but the most minimalist of hiking. PRIMUS set a new standard with this stove. I rate the PRIMUS OmniFuel Stove a solid 10.0 |
