But..., By This review is from: Primus EtaPower Easy Fuel Stove with 2.1-Liter Pot (Gray) (Sports) Just purchased this stove and spent 5 days in Yellowstone. Overall I loved the stove. Boils water as fast as my buddy's new Jetboil and is much more versatile. The insulated pouch is a great addition. We were able to get rice dishes half done on the stove, drop them into the pouch and they finished off perfectly - a big fuel and time savings. This allowed us to get started on other dishes while the one in the pouch finished cooking. A great addition...I would recommend this as an addition to the trail version of this stove...I saw it on Amazon for about $12... Also, I loved not having the fuel source away from under the stove - it allows the stove and pots to set very close to the ground - a great attribute on even slightly uneven ground. My buddy succeeded in knocking over his Jetboil full of hot water...what a mess.Now for the downside...I used my Outback Oven with the stove and it worked perfectly (cobbler, cornbread, pizza, brownies, etc)...EXCEPT, it melted the... There is not another stove on the market that can compete for water boil times. The insulated case is great. The only complaints I have ever heard is the piezo igniter does not function well and it is bulky. While these are true, my response is: 1) Get a match 2) this is meant to be more than a 1 or even 2 person stove. If you have a 4 person backpacking trip and one person carries the stove then who cares about the bulk. I took this on a 5 day yellowstone trip and pretty soon I was boiling all the water for 8 people because I could outperform three other stoves combined. I just got a snow peak gigapower stove for when it's just me and a buddy and the boil times for 2 cups of water were 1 min 30 sec. for the Primus and 4 min 30 sec. for the snowpeak. The snow peak is a greatly reviewed stove and very small so I'll still take it when space & weight matter, but does not hold a candle to the primus for speed and fuel efficiency. |
