2.0 out of 5 stars Not Dependable on a camping trip, December 19, 2006

I tried out these recently on a winter camping trip in New Hampshire and they didn't really work.I had them in a small folding camp stove and they were very hard to light and then would not stay lit in any kind of wind while shielded under a tarp.Next time I'll try trioxane bars instead. They also smell like mothballs and the little containers that hold each cube do not stay sealed,so all of your equipment and clothes will also smell.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for one cup of coffee, July 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Esbit Solid Fuel Tablets, 12 pieces, 14g each (Misc.)
I am one of those guys who has to have a cup of coffee no matter where I am. I go on mission trips where there is no water or electricity. I have been using this Esbit for several years and I can always make a cup of coffee in an no matter where I am. This is my reorder of the fuel and I am writing this review even before I received them. con = it smells. I have it packed it in a plastic ware with match.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light weight, easy to use source of heat, August 16, 2009
By
I have used Esbit fuel tablets for 10+ years for backpacking. They and the Esbit stove make the lightest weight and most compact cooking system available. The stove, fuel, lighter, cooking oil, soap, and other kitchen items fit neatly in my 2 cup pot. The tablets take approximately 8-10 minutes to bring water to a boil, but I put my Lipton instant dinners, and the like into the pot and it often will be done by the time the tablet runs out. If not I just add another tablet. When the meal is cooked, I close the stove which smothers the flame, and I can save the remaining tablet for next time.

The tablets are easier to start with a few drops of alcohol or cotton balls smeared in Vaseline, but I have done it with just a Bic lighter. You can't simmer with these, it has only one heat "setting" but to just boil something, they are great. They are also great for starting bon-fires of sticks and such.
