I tested one and it seemed to be fine so I put them in my bug-out-bag. My twin boys (seven years old) and I went hiking and used them to cook our lunches. They still performed just as great as they did back in the day. Having exhausted them, I recently purchased some more for further expeditions with my boys. Maybe they'll be able to use them after 20 years! :) 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful ESBIT quality in a smaller form factor, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Esbit Solid Fuel (Sports) After many years of using the 14 gram ESBIT cubes, both as fuel and as a fire starter, I recently purchased the 20 x 4 g size. I can happily report that it's the same high quality product just in a smaller tablet. When burned laying flat on a piece of aluminum foil my tests showed that one tablet burns strongly for over 4.5 minutes, then well enough to be used to light tinder up til about the 5.5 minute mark. The tablet is finally consumed right around the 6 minute mark, not bad for a 4 g piece. My feeling is that these aren't big enough and lack the heat to be an effective stove fuel for anything beyond maybe 1 cup of water (at least used one at a time) but they're great for fire tinder! They can be lit with a fire steel with a bit of preparation, or easily with a match. They're reasonably windproof, waterproof and very reliable. With anything resembling decent fire prep you should be able to get a fire going with four minutes plus of 1,400 F naked flame.Another...
