I've been using mine for about three winters and I love it!This unit is about the size of a man's wallet and fits easily into your pocket. Red felt covers the entire external face of the case and pushing the latch opens up to a fiberglass compartment where you would put the lit fuel stick. You simply light a fuel stick (which never burns a flame but just produces a red ember similar to a fire that has almost gone out) and you wait till it is about 1/2 inch burned down before you shut the case. It takes 30 minutes or so to reach it's highest temperature but the warmth starts emitting from the case immediately upon shutting it. After it reaches it's highest temperature, the unit gets just hot enough that it can be comfortable on your skin without burning...although the heat is much hotter than the disposable hot packs out there. The fuel stick also lasts much longer (hours) and maintains temperature throughout...unlike disposables that peter out toward the end... Read Mihlani's lengthy review above as it covers lots of things you need to know. I'll just add this: I am a photographer. Sometimes I shoot in the winter here in Minneapolis. I'm very thin with very little natural "padding" on me, and have neuropathy in the extremities. So I get numb easily from the cold. My wool gloves, of necessity, have the fingertips cut out so that I can work the camera controls. I use those little cotton/paper bag handwarmers (you shake up the chemicals inside to make them start up) and stuff a couple inside each glove to keep my hands warm for hours on end. But my fingertips get COLD! So I keep one of these Texsport solid fuel handwarmers in each pocket, and I can reach inside my coat pockets every couple minutes to hold them with my fingertips to keep the fingertips warm & nimble. They work VERY well, and are much warmer than the "shake-n-bake" warmers. They stay very warm for two to 2.5 hours, which is why I give them four stars and not five... if...
