4.0 out of 5 stars A pretty good fuel tank, September 30, 2010

I bought this tank to hold diesel fuel for a generator which is a backup power source in a solar power system for my off-grid home.

The Amazon description says it is "Not for use with diesel fuel." If one goes to the Moeller Marine web site one will see that they say it is suited for diesel fuel or gasoline. It has worked fine with diesel fuel over the 7 months it has been in use. One must modify the vent fitting to accommodate a diesel return line, but that is easy enough.

The tank is translucent which makes it easy, in my situation, to see the fuel level. I am not using the fuel level sensor, so cannot comment on it.

If you are considering this tank, be aware that while it claims to be 14 gallons, the actual usable capacity is about 10.4 gallons.

The cost of the tank seems high, but it is well made and more affordable than any alternatives I could find. I have owned boats and would select a Moeller fuel tank for use in a boat which... Read more

This was a major job for us. Replacing an internal fuel tank is no easy nor a non-dangerous job. The directions are a bit lacking in hose size requirements which required a couple trips to the local ship's store to test for sizes. Had the directions showed hose size requirements, that would have been most helpful. After replacing all hoses and locking her down to the shelf we had built, things got easier. The fuel gauge wire diagram ignores electrical input which is needed for the blasted gauge to work. That required a call to an electrician to make sure we didn't electrify the fuel tank itself when we hooked the gauge up. Once he assured us we weren't building a bomb, we proceeded to conclusion. I have a couple of tips for those of you who get these tanks:

*Take the tank to a marine store and test all hose outlets to make sure you get the right tube size. Estimate distances and get your hoses.
*Double clamp all hoses and use the special epoxy rated for fuel when... Read more
