This is a direct replacement for the Yamaha 6P3-WS24A-00-00 on-engine fuel filter. I had two concerns regarding this filter, (1) was the filter media treated to be hydrophobic and thereby allow it perform water separation as with the OEM Yamaha filter does. This is important because the engine fuel filter bowl has a WIF or (water in Fuel) sensor located in the bottom to detect any water that might just get past the main (boat mounted) 10 Micron water/fuel separating filter Sierra 18-7866, which I also purchase here on Amazon.I used to be an engineer for Parker Hannifin (Racor Div) manufacturing boat filters, so I do have some resident knowledge of the process and testing. Testing these for water fuel separation is as easy as one cup of your favorite fuel and adding a little water, shake for dispersion, pump it through the fuel filter and you will see water form on the outside and fall to the bottom of the fuel bowl.
