5.0 out of 5 stars Great lightweight stove. Coleman should keep it up!, December 3, 2005

I purchased a Coleman Exponent F1 Ultralight stove this past spring in preparation for a trip to the Cascades in Oregon. I have owned a liquid fuel stove for years (MSR Whisperlite purchased in approx 1992), and have loved it, but as I am getting older, I have been wanting to trim my pack weight down. I have found the following advantages to the F1 Ultralight.

#1. Easy to use. Simply unscrew the burner head, open the pan supports, screw the burner head back down, screw stove onto canister, light match, twist valve, and you are cooking with gas.

#2. No priming. The liquid fuel stoves required priming, and pumping, which made them harder to use than I would have expected. With this stove, you simply turn the valve and light. No waiting for the generator to heat up.

#3. Very light weight. The stove assembly itself weighs less than just the small fuel bottle for my liquid fuel stove alone. This thing is a feather on the back.

The disadvantages... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great super lightweight stove, July 5, 2008

I bought this stove a few weeks ago for a backpacking trip in the California Sierras. We used the stove twice a day and it worked great (one match to light every time even in windy conditions). The stove is unbelievably light and fits in a tiny sack which can easily be stored inside pots and pans for protection. It is also surprisingly stable considering its' size. The manual says the stove is compatible only with Coleman propane/butane canisters but it will work with any propane/butane canister. I used the MSR brand. I used one 4 oz. cannister in four days (7 meals plus boiling water for tea, hot chocolate). In summary, this is a great product for a great price. Similar stoves I looked at were heavier and twice the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Stove, September 20, 2007

I have had the F1 Ultralight for over 4 years and can say that it's the best I've seen. It puts out more heat then the MSR PocketRocket, packs down smaller, is lighter... and costs less. Of course, with this stove, you are limited to the Isobutane/Propane type fuel canisters, so if you are planning to go someplace where those aren't available, this isn't the stove for you, but otherwise, it's a fantastic investment. I do most of my backpacking in the Sierra's and have never had any problems with it- the design is very clean.
