I used Yaktrax last year, a fairly icy winter here in Minneapolis, and they were definitely better than plain boots. But I still slid on icy patches more than I was comfortable with, and they were flat-out dangerous indoors (where you usually are when putting on or removing them). This fall I picked up the Stabilicers at REI. I tried them out after our Christmas Eve and Day snow/rainfall - the icy road ruts and frozen footprints on the sidewalks are terribly treacherous. But the Stabilicers are wonderful! I've been walking a mile every day around my neighborhood, and would have had to quit without them. I was a bit skeptical at first, but after a fair amount of comparative research, I decided on Stabilicers. I bought these in the off season, so had to wait to try them out. The first snow fall delivered some snow, followed immediately by freezing rain, which created a slick iced surface on packed down snow. Put the Stabilicers on and went outside to test them out on the sloped, slippery driveway, and they worked great. Really good traction that immediately provides confidence and stability in walking on such treacherous surfaces. It is easy to forget one is not moving about on a surface where caution is still of utmost importance...with these, you need to now make a conscious effort to remember that fact at all times. Very satisfied. Can not provide any information on durability of the product, as this is the first use. Will update in a few years. I bought a small size wearing a 8 in womans and they are snug.. i would recommend going a size up. Both my husband and I don't care for these. They are not comfortable to wear. You feel like you are walking on stilts. However they do grip well. They were cheaper than the higher quality so I suppose we got what we paid for. We recommend put the extra money out for a better quality cleat. |
